This is a photo of Company "A" 34th Tank Battalion at Union Gap, PA. shortly before they shipped out to NY and embarked to Great Britain. The second officer from the left is my father, 1st Lt. Clarence "Swede" Nelson from Omaha, NE. To his left is Capt. Richard "Dick" Beiterman, the company Commander from near Milwaukee, WI. My father was in charge of the motor pool. He return home in early 1946 and was awarded the Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters and a Purple Heart. He served in the Army Reserve for an additional 20 years and retired as a Major. He passed away in Jan. of 2015 at the age of 98.
