Restoration of 46 AIB M3 Scout Car
Tara Airbase is a privately owned 51 acre museum owned by Navaro Nichols and his wife, Jan. Mr. Nichols is a retired
U.S. Air pilot that started the museum as a memorial to those who served in the armed forces during World War II.
The base includes a 2,100-foot sod runway, and physical facilities such as Quonset huts, an Army Air Corps-style control
tower, and two World War II era round-top hangars. The buildings are furnished with the Nichols’ collection of World War
II aviation memorabilia.
The facilities are open to the public, and the Nichols' hosts an annual “fly-in” weekend that attracts dozens of owners
of World War II vintage aircraft. They conduct simulated combat missions to spot soldiers in WWII period dress and military
targets in the countryside surrounding the airstrip.
Tara Air Base is located approximately 8 miles south of Mocksville, North Carolina along U.S. 601.
