The 88mm was the bore diameter of choice for the Germans. It was used in a number of field pieces including tanks, artillery, and anti-tank guns (PaK 43). It was even used as a deck gun on their submarines.

The German 88 was a high volicity weapon that was produced in great quantities. It fired a (roughly) 3 1/2 inch, 10.4 kilogram (23 pound), Armor Piercing shell a distance of 17,500 meters. That's 10.8 miles!
